Reinvest ASA: Call for Proposals


Reinvest ASA is a unique program, designed to fund ASA programs, activities, and innovative projects that enhance ASA’s value to members and the agronomic profession.The ASA leadership is soliciting proposals to fund new or enhance existing projects. Proposals may be submitted by ASA members. The Reinvest ASA Committee will rank proposals and present their recommendations to the ASA Board for approval. Notification will follow the May ASA Board meeting and funding for approved proposals will be available immediately.

Evaluation Criteria - Proposals will be evaluated based on the following:

1. The extent to which the proposal meets the Reinvest ASA guidelines relative to its value to:

  • facilitate the ASA Strategic Plan (pdf)
  • increase membership in ASA
  • provide alternative revenues for ASA
  • add value to ASA programs and activities
  • enable ASA to engage in innovative and important issues consistent to its mission

2. The potential for success of the proposed effort.
3. The appropriateness of the budget.

The role of ACSESS staff in Reinvest ASA projects will be to serve as an advisor and a resource. The expectation of a funded Reinvest ASA project is that it will be developed by the members.

In 2017, a total of up to $100,000 is available to fund multiple member-driven projects, activities, and events, including the Annual Meeting program. Previous funded projects include: Agronomy Market Research, Millennials Focus Group, Girl Scout Camp Activities, Agronomy for Kids Book and Website, Agronomy Videos, Crops Contest, Statistics Workshop, Greenfield Scholars Support, Annual Meeting Program Enhancement Funds, Symposia Speakers, Australia Crops Judging Team, Congressional Visits Day, and Thirsty Land Movie.

  1. ASA membership is required of the individual submitting the self-nomination.



  1. Project Title
    For historical tracking purposes, this title must stay the same throughout the project.
  2. Principal Investigators/Co-Principal Investigators
    List the PI/CoPIs and include complete contact information (name, affiliation, email, phone). Individuals listed must be fully engaged and contributing to the proposed project.
  3. ASA Affiliation
    For the PI and Co-PI, list their current involvement in ASA (Section, Community, Committee, including leadership roles, if applicable).
  4. Cooperators
    List cooperators (organizations, companies, universities, other societies) involved in the project.
  5. Proposed Timeline
    Indicate the anticipated timeline for the project, noting the start and end dates along with milestone dates. The project should be completed within two years. (Character Limit, including spaces: 4500)
  6. Project Justification and Objectives
    Describe the specific objectives and goals of the proposed project. Provide a summary on how this project will meet an important need or opportunity for ASA and how it meets one or more of the Reinvest ASA evaluation criteria. (Character Limit, including spaces: 6000)
  7. Project Details
    Describe the details of the project, including the procedures and methodology to be used, the kinds and timing of expected results, any potential problems or limitations that may be encountered, and potential for success. (Character Limit, including spaces: 6000)
  8. Total Project Request
    Fill in the total amount of your funding request.
  9. Other Funding Sources
    If you are soliciting or receiving funds from other sources, indicate in this section the amount and funding source.
  10. Budget
    Prepare a budget which reflects your needs for the entire project. Reinvest ASA does not pay overhead charges, tuition for graduate students, and does not fund travel to professional society meetings. Note: The role of ACSESS personnel in the Reinvest ASA projects will be to serve as an advisor and a resource. The expectation of a funded Reinvest ASA project is that it will be developed by the members.   11. Budget Justification
    Provide a justification narrative for each of the expenses listed in the budget table. (Character Limit, including spaces: 6000)
  12. Background Materials
    Upload additional supporting documents. Include background material for consideration that may include pictures, graphics, etc. Upload as 1 pdf with a maximum of 3 total pages. Note: Total file size upload for Background Materials and the Budget PDF is 12MB, unless you upload/save them separately.
