Mentoring Award

 
The Women Science Mentoring Award recognizes an individual whose efforts have encouraged women and/or girls in the sciences. Mentoring efforts may be demonstrated by such things as the number of women mentored in academic, government, or industry positions; assisting students in presenting and publishing their work, finding financial aid, and providing career guidance; providing psychological support, encouragement, and strategies for maintaining work-life balance for early-career professionals in agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences; and continued interest in the individual professional advancement of women scientists. The award consists of a $1,500 honorarium and plaque, which is presented at the Women in Science event at the Annual Meetings.
 
Evaluation:
  1. Demonstration of consistent leadership and support for the advancement of women and girls in agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences
  2. Service as a mentor, role model or key player to encourage and advance girls and women in agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences
  3. Work to stimulate change in the social conditioning of girls and women with regard to our sciences

Nominee

  1. Nominees are not required to be ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA members.
  2. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
  3. Former recipients of this Award are not eligible.
  4. Members of this Awards Committee and the ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Board of Directors are not eligible to be a nominee for this award.

Reference

  1. Two outside letters of recommendation supporting the nomination will be from ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA members.
  2. Members of this Awards Committee and the ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Board of Directors are not eligible to be a reference for this award.

Qualifications

Nominator

  1. Letter of Support from the Nominator
    A letter from the nominator outlining the major accomplishments of the nominee. The nominator letter should document mentoring using, for example, information on the number of women mentored in academic, government, or industry positions; accounts of assisting students in presenting and publishing their work and finding financial aid, providing career guidance; psychological support, encouragement, and strategies for maintaining work-life balance for early-career professionals in agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences. The nominator letter should demonstrate the mentor’s continued interest in the individual professional advancement of women scientists. (Character Limit, including spaces: 6000)

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    A brief Curriculum Vitae for the nominee with current (past 5 years) publications and/or significant accomplishments. (Character Limit, including spaces: 6500)
  2. Summary
    A short summary of the nominee’s credentials and activities with regard to their advancement of women in the agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences (Character Limit, including spaces: 6000)
