Plant and Soil Science Conference Emphasizes Food, Energy and Environmental Security

More than 3,000 scientists will present research and emerging trends in energy, agriculture, education, and more, Oct.31-Nov. 3 in Long Beach.

MADISON, WI, July 19, 2010 -- A conference is coming to Long Beach Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 that presents the latest research in plant and soil science, emphasizing the security of food, energy and the environment in the next green revolution. More than 3,000 international scientists, professionals, educators, and students will present new technologies and discuss emerging trends in food security, bioenergy, climate change, soil change, and related issues.

The Annual Meetings of three scientific societies offer a collaborative technical program among the members of the sponsoring organizations: American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). The meetings will be held at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. Also meeting are the 3rd International Conference on Criminal & Environmental Soil Forensics and the U.S. Canola Association Annual Research Conference.
 
ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Annual Meetings Program
The meeting theme "GreenRevolution 2.0: Food + Energy and Environmental Security," presents a program that is built around daily plenary sessions, nine distinguished lectures, 2,500+ oral and poster presentations, an exhibit hall, career center, and other events.
 
The conference begins on Sunday, Oct. 31, with a Plenary Session by New York Times Columnist and award winning author Thomas L. Friedman. Friedman's latest book is, Hot, Flat and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution—and How It Can Renew America. Other plenary speakers include author and UCLA geography professor Jared Diamond, Monsanto's Executive Vice President & CFO Carl M. Casale, Stanford professor of environmental studies Pamela A. Matson, and University of Washington professor David Montgomery, author of Dirt: Erosion of Civilizations.
 
Each day will feature dozens of papers, posters and presentations representing the latest in agriculture, plant and soils science. Other research themes that will be presented include the latest advancements in nitrogen, phosphorus, and precision and sustainable agriculture.
