Agronomy, Crops, Soils Societies Offer Scholarships, Fellowships

MADISON, WI, February 18, 2010 -- Looking for ways to support your studies in agronomy, crop, soil science, or a related discipline? Three scientific societies based in Madison, WI, are accepting applications for several scholarships and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students studying in these fields. The scholarships and fellowships are sponsored by the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America.

Scholarships/Fellowships with Applications due by March 23, 2010:
 
Cross-Cultural Experience Program (Scholarship) -- $2,500 -- open to an undergraduate student majoring in soils, crops, or agronomy to learn about agricultural sciences from an international perspective.
 
Francis and Evelyn Clark Soil Biology Scholarship -- $1000 -- for a graduate student working in the field of soil biology or biochemistry or microbial ecology.
 
Gerald O. Mott Scholarship for Meritorious Graduate Students in Crop Science -- $2500 -- scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious graduate student in crop science. 
 
Hank Beachell Future Leader Scholarship --$3500 -- this scholarship aims to expand the agricultural knowledge of undergraduate students participating in activities that enhance their university studies. 
 
J. Fielding Reed Scholarship -- $1000 -- this scholarship honors an outstanding undergraduate senior pursuing a career in soil or plant sciences.
National Society of Consulting Soil Scientist (NSCSS) Scholarships -- $1000 -- for undergraduate or beginning graduate students in soil science programs.
 
Pioneer Fellowship in Plant Sciences -- $25,000 annually-- for doctoral level graduate in the area of plant sciences, with specific focus on crop management or crop physiology.
 
United Soybean Board Fellowship -- $25,000 annually -- for a graduate student studying plant sciences, with a soybean focus.
 
Scholarships/Fellowships with Applications due April 14, 2010:
 
Congressional Science Fellowship -- an annual stipend of $53,000 -- is awarded to a Ph.D. who will spend one year in Washington, DC on the staff of a member of Congress or Congressional committee, contributing to the more effective use of science in government.
 
Science Policy Internship -- a $1,000 monthly stipend plus living expenses -- for the intern who will work in the ASA-CSSA-SSSA Science Policy Office in Washington DC, assisting in a variety of science policy activities.
