MADISON, WI, OCTOBER 9, 2009 -- Three scientific societies with ties to American and international agriculture applaud the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s establishment of a National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), which was officially unveiled yesterday in Washington, DC by Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture. He was accompanied by John Holdren, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Rajiv Shah, Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics and USDA Chief Scientist.
“I am optimistic that the new Institute will serve as the focal point for the increased investments, both human and monetary that are needed to achieve the increased agricultural productivity that is necessary for the people of the world,” adds Alley.
