Abstract

Discrete interface penetration modeling has recently been proposed to quantify the phenomenological domain response to permeants that substantially alter soil's hydraulic conductivity. Analytical solutions are presented here for a dual-interface model compatible with constant-head, constant-flux, or falling-head permeameter testing. It is demonstrated that the nondimensional transient saturated hydraulic conductivity response K̄(t) is independent of permeameter design. Solutions are also presented for the transient potential field φ̄(X,t) and interface locations X̄1(t), X̄2(t) that would accompany the infiltration episode.
