Relation of Parent Material Geology to Reaction Classes of Flood Plain Entisols in the Coastal Plains1

Abstract

Abstract

Soil reaction class is a criterion used in classifying Entisols. A total of 122 pedons of alluvial Entisols were sampled in eight major geologic areas of the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains. Soil reaction values were determined in water and 0.01M CaCl2. Geologic formation may be used to predict the soil reaction class at the family level when the formation is relatively uniform. Areas having highly dissected terrain are somewhat unpredictable.
