Steady Infiltration from a Ditch: Theory and Experiment1

Abstract

The two-dimensional, steady-state water flow equation, which is based on the assumption that the hydraulic conductivity is an exponential function of the soil water pressure, is solved for a ditch on the soil surface. The results include expressions describing the distributions of matric flux potential and water content. Measured water contents were compared with this mathematical model and also with the models given by Lomen and Warrick (1974) for a line source, and Warrick and Lomen (1976) for a strip source.
