Determination of Soil Aluminum in Barium Chloride Extracts by Aluminon Method1

  1. R. A. Khalid2

Abstract

Abstract

Barium chloride solution used to extract soil Al was found to react with an aluminon reagent to form aluminon lake as does Al and enhance color intensity. It is suggested that in soil extracts where aliquots required for Al determination are < 10 ml, additional 1N BaCl2 should be added to give a constant total quantity of 10 ml BaCl2 in all extracts. In soil extracts with low Al concentrations, where aliquots larger than 10 ml are required for analysis using the aluminon method, no corrections for BaCl2 interference are necessary.
