Abstract

Abstract

A theory is presented for the transport in porous media of water in response to a temperature gradient and the transport of heat in response to a water pressure gradient. The fundamentals have been discussed in a previous paper. This second paper is concerned with the coupled flow processes occurring in the liquid phase. The cause of these processes is found to be the existence of the heat of wetting and the heat of fusion. Expressions for and relations between the transport coefficients are developed. Their magnitude is estimated by model calculations.
