Abstract

Equations are derived for the relation between corrected lime potential (CLP) and degree of base saturation for temperatures 15, 25, and 35C. The effect of temperature on the activity of Al(OH)3 in solution and on the exchange constant is discussed. It is shown that there is a significant effect of temperature on the relation between CLP and percent base saturation. The CLP values decreased 0.15 units on the average for an increase of 10C in clay and soil systems. It is also shown that experiments should be done at a constant temperature for calculating the degree of base saturation from the corrected lime potential.
