Abstract

Abstract

A new soil perfusion system is described which allows the continuous recycling of an aqueous solution through a soil column under controlled environmental conditions. The system consists essentially of a perforated inner column for soil, jacketed by an outer column in which constant air pressure is maintained. Precise control of soil moisture content and soil atmospheric composition during perfusion is accomplished by regulation of pressure and composition of gases surrounding the soil column.
