Direct Microscopic Observations of Stomata in the Field—Quick and Easy

  1. Joseph T. Woolley1

Abstract

Abstract

Field determination of stomatal status has previously depended upon surface replication techniques or on porometers. The former are inconvenient and often damage the leaf, while the latter are difficult to calibrate and often cannot be used on wet leaves. Adaptation of a commercially-available field microscope now allows rapid, non-destructive field observation and photography of stomata on wet or dry leaves.
