Inheritance of Resistance to Stripe Rust and its Association with Brown Glume Color in Tritieum aestivum L., ‘P.I. 178383’1

Abstract

F2, F3, and backcross generations, representing crosses of ‘P.I. 178383’ (resistant) ✕ ‘Orin’ and ‘Elgin’ (susceptible) were observed in the field for their response to stripe rust and for glume color segregation. A major gene for stripe rust resistance was found to be associated with the gene that regulates brown glume color in P.I. 178383. The two loci are separated by approximately two crossover units. Stripe rust resistance governed by the major gene was not associated with awnedness and spike density.
