Modification of a Grassland Drill for Sward Interseeding1

Abstract

Abstract

The commercially available pasture seeders have been found to be ineffective in stoney and topographically uneven swards, incapable of seeding in row spacing widths of less than 44 cm or too expensive for the average pasture renovation system. Introducing additional species into an existing sward has been recognized as beneficial for increasing forage production and quality and seasonal distribution of forage production. This publication describes a modification of a John-Deere grassland drill. This modified pasture drill has been effective for interseeding ladino clover (Trifolium repens L. var. Ladino) into established stands of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) in the Piedmont area of Georgia.
