Initial Competition of Root-nodule Bacteria on Soybeans in a Field Environment
- B. E. Caldwell
Competitive behavior of three strains of Rhizobium japonicum was evaluated in a soil free of this organism. The three strains differed in their competitive ability. Strain 110 produced 98% of the nodules when applied in combination with strain 38, and 76% when in combination with strain 76. Strain 76 produced 95% of the nodules when applied in combination with strain 38. Results from treatments inoculated with the individual strains indicated that strain 110 produced the greatest fresh weight and greatest bean yield. Please view the pdf by using the Full Text (PDF) link under 'View' to the left.
