Influence of (NH4) SO4 on Root Growth and P Absorption by Corn From a Fertilizer Band1

  1. M. H. Miller2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Addition of (NH4)2SO4 to a P band increased the absorption of fertilizer P by a single corn root in each of 3 experiments. The development of lateral roots on the single root was increased by (NH4)2SO4 in the first experiment but not in the other two. It was concluded that increased root growth was not a prerequisite for the increased absorption, and that (NH4)2SO4 had some specific physiological effect on the absorption of P.
