Synopsis

Synopsis

In 5 of 8 years when other factors were not limiting, irrigation on a silt loam soil in a vegetable crop rotation including alfalfa significantly increased dry matter yield of alfalfa by 1490 pounds per acre per year. Extra fertilizer increased total yield by 240 pounds of dry matter per acre per year. Highest yields, averaging 10,500 pounds of dry matter per acre per year, came from irrigated high-fertility-level plots.
