Synopsis

The data suggest that after three generations of selection, lines become somewhat homozygous for palatability to cattle. Although there was gradual loss in vigor with each generation of inbreeding, a sufficient number of lines were maintained through four generations of selfing to indicate that selection within inbred lines may be used successfully in tall fescue improvement.
