Synopsis

Synopsis

Sources of resistance to common corn rust, southern corn rust, and 2 leaf blights were isolated from maize introductions. A large number of mutant endosperm and seedling characters were uncovered by selfing. Preliminary study of combining ability with a well-established single-cross hybrid, Wf9 ✕ Hy, showed that very few introductions can be expected to provide additional yield factors but that the greatest contribution will come from introductions which are in themselves relatively desirable.
