Effect of Certain Fertility and Management Treatments on the Growth and Early Development of Rhizomes of Two Varieties of Smooth Bromegrass1

  1. L. B. Hertz2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Seedlings of two varieties of Bromus inermis, Lyon and Canadian certified, produced more rhizomes when kept free of weeds than when weeds were clipped or where a companion crop was used. The production of rhizomes by Lyon (southern) was greater than was i:he production by Canadian certified (northern) in most instances. The addition of fertilizer did not increase significantly the development of rhizomes.
