Synopsis

The common type of Paspalum dilatatum and a closely related yellow-anthered type had 50 chromosomes. Meiosis I was characterized by 20 bivalents and 10 univalents which lagged at anaphase I. A semi-prostrate, purple-anthered type had 40 chromosomes and extreme meiotic irregularity, frequently having 20 laggards at anaphase I. A yellow-anthered, erect type with pubescent spikelets had 40 chromosomes and regular meiotic behavior.
